Twitter is a communication tool based around very short 'updates'. It involves developing a network of 'followers' and following others' updates. It has a number of possible uses in education:

• a broadcast tool for latest news
• participating in a live event such as a conference
• developing learning networks which can be used for resource discovery, finding answers, getting feedback on your ideas; strengthening working relationships
• data collection
