Course: Collaborative writing with wikis and Google docs

This session will introduce you to using wikis and other collaborative writing tools such as Google Docs. It is aimed at researchers and PhD students who are working in small teams and wish to work together. It covers the following topics:

  • An introduction to web-based document sharing, specifically wikis and Google Docs,
  • Typical use cases for collaborative editing of documents,
  • Hands-on practice using and creating a wiki,
  • Hands-on practice editing a Word document using Google Docs, and
  • Discussion of privacy and security issues when using non-LSE web based services.
There are no specific pre-requisites for this session, aside from a basic familiarity with editing documents using a word processor
