Please note that we are no longer taking bookings for the Software Surgery. The following is for information only!

The Software Surgery is a drop-in service where LSE staff and students can get help on specific problems with the following software applications:

  • Statistical Software : SPSS, Stata*
  • Qualitative Analysis : NVivo
  • Microsoft Office : Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word
  • Library Technologies : Endnote * , e-journals and online data sources
The Software Surgery runs every Thursday during term time from 13.00-14.00 in the Library Training Room (LRB.R08) on the Lower Ground Floor of the Library. The last Surgery for Lent Term 2015 will be Thursday 26th March and they will resume every week from Thursday 16th April until Thursday 2nd July 2015. 

This service is based on a first-come, first-served policy and we no longer take advanced bookings. In order to accomodate as many people as possible there is a time limit of 15 minutes for each query.

Please make sure you have a copy of your owrk on your H:Space and/or memory stick when you attend a session. We cover the topics listed above, but we do not know everything! if we cannot help you solve your problem in the time available on the day, we will get back to you at a later date.   If you need more information, please contact us at training.and.development@lse.ac.uk.

  • These are drop-in sessions for specific problems and not for general training
  • If you have a methodology query rather than a software query, please attend the Methods Surgery instead
  • If you need help with an Apple device or software, please attend Apple Hour
