Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for all staff whose work involves communicating information through giving presentations to colleagues, students and external partners.  It would be of most benefit to those with limited or no previous training or experience of giving presentations, or if you are a moderately experienced presenter who needs to reinforce and refresh your core skills.
This is a highly participative and engaging course which focuses on the practical skills required to become a more effective presenter.  This programme is designed to provide staff who give presentations with the skills and knowledge they need to do this effectively.
By the end of this course you will

  • Be able to plan, prepare and structure successful presentations
  • Put the audience at the heart of your presentation to get your message across
  • Use a variety of tools, techniques and visual aids for effective delivery
  • Receive feedback on the strengths and areas for development of your presentation style and take action to develop these

Before the course
This is a highly participative course using group work, discussions, feedback and extensive practice sessions (some of which will be recorded on video). To get maximum value from the training, all participants attending must bring with them a short five minute presentation/speech that they have recently delivered, or design one to bring with them that they are due to deliver in the future.  You will be asked to deliver the presentation during the training which will be recorded on video and played back.
At the end of the course you will be encouraged to produce a personal action plan designed to improve your public speaking ability in the workplace.
