Course: Developing Yourself as a Manager

Who is this course for?

This workshop would benefit those who would like to get themselves into the best possible position for enhancing their career by either becoming a manager or developing their existing managerial skills. It will focus on creating a positive mindset to become more proactive in career development and to facilitate personal responsibility. The shift in attitude required to shift from team member to team manager will be explored. This course could be undertaken as a stand-alone day, or attended in combination with the follow-up course “From Manager to Leader”


This course will look at the attitude and mindset required when becoming a manager, and the key roles and responsibilities required. The distinction between a manager and leader will be explored along with the theory, principles and practice of emotional intelligence as a model for development thoroughly outlined. Finally, the importance of a positive mindset and a thorough understanding your key work-based strengths will be explored through a combination of theory, discussion and a card-sort exercise.

  • Be more proactive and take more personal responsibility for career development
  • Be clearer about your own “brand” – your unique selling points
  • Identified your key work-based strengths and motivations with a view to marketing yourself effectively
