Course: Getting the most from your meetings
Description:

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for all staff who need to communicate effectively in meetings, both internally and externally throughout the organisation.  It focuses on developing the skills for chairing or leading meetings so that you can get the most from them, providing you with the confidence to participate more positively and with greater impact.

Overview

This is a highly participative, engaging and positive course and will focus on making practical improvements to your existing skills.  As a result, the sessions will employ a variety of techniques including group-work, trainer presentations, delegate practise, group discussions and extensive feedback.  You will also be encouraged to produce a personal action plan designed to improve your ability to manage meetings successfully and contribute more effectively in the future.

By the end of this course you will

  • Be able to successfully lead and manage meetings and improve your effectiveness
  • Understand the appropriate use of different types and styles of meetings and their respective benefits and drawbacks
  • Plan and prepare effectively for meetings and manage follow up actions
  • Make more confident and effective contributions to meetings as an attendee

Before the course

To get maximum value from the course, please consider your previous experience of leading and/or participating in meetings, both in your current role and in past roles.  You will be asked to think about those things that went well, those things that did not go so well, and areas where improvements would be beneficial.  You should produce a list that contains positive and negative aspects of leading/attending meetings and bring this with you.

During the training you will be invited to discuss your experiences with the rest of the group and work together to find solutions to areas that you have found challenging.
