Course: Panel Session: Why to apply for external funding for your research?
Description:
This panel session aims to discuss the pros and cons of engaging in externally-funded research.
 
Chaired by Prof Julia Black, Pro-Director Research and Professor of Law, a panel of academics will be sharing their experiences on the perils and rewards of leading research projects. Confirmed panellists include Prof Martin Knapp, Director of the Personal Social Services Research Unit and Professor of Social Policy, Prof George Gaskell, Pro-director of Resources and Planning; and Dr Mara Malagodi, British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the Law Department. Prof Eric Neumayer, recently appointed Vice-Chair of the Appointments Committee, will be sharing his views on the impact of research grants on an academic’s career and research development. David Coombe, Research Division’s Director, will be talking about the Research Division’s integrated support services for research development designed to help colleagues achieve their research funding goals.
 
All staff members are welcome and encouraged to join the debate, which will be followed by a reception in the Senior Common Room.
 
This event is organised by the Research Development Team in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Centre.
