Programme: Support for parents
Course: Building Resilience in our Primary Age Children and Ourselves
Description:
Who is this course for?

This workshop is suitable for all staff and partners of staff working at the LSE who are parents of primary age children either now or will be in the near future.

Overview

Resilient children can resist adversity, cope with uncertainty and recover more successfully when things go wrong.  There is good evidence that one of the best ways to help children to be more resilient is to support parents to be more resilient themselves.

This session will introduce a simple evidence based framework for resilience and explore what resilience is and some practical tips for parents about building resilience in themselves, their children and families.  In particular it will explore the idea of ‘holding your child in mind’ and what that involves.  It will consider how thoughts, feelings and behaviours are related and how young children develop the foundations for healthy relationships and the capacity to manage their feelings.

The session will include information on the YoungMinds Parents Helpline and the top 5 issues in this age group raised by parents, plus information on accessing help and support.

After the workshop

The LSE Parents and Parents-to-be Network

The School has a new network for working parents and parents-to-be.  The network aims to support employees with the transition to the role of working parent by offering confidential support and to share good practice from trained mentors who work at the School and who already have experience of managing work and home.  You might find it useful to contact a mentor to meet for a cup of coffee or to have a brief word on the phone.
