Programme: Personal Effectiveness
Course: Managing Stress in Yourself and Others [Version 2]
Description:
Who is this course for?

All LSE staff.

Overview

Stress in small doses can be a healthy motivator for staff and managers. When controlled a healthy level of stress can inspire us to work harder, work smarter and success in a fast paced environment. However, when stress is left unchecked and pressure is allowed to multiply the effects on staff members can be significant.
In this course learners consider:
  •  Can I spot the signs of stress in myself and others?
  •  Can I effectively manage my own reactions to adverse stress and assist others when I see them struggling?
The learning includes a practice session and extensive self-reflection and planning around:
  •  What is the stress wheel and how can I use it to understand my own approach to managing stress?
  •  What is resilience and how can I become more resilient and able to cope when  problems arise?
  •  A five step process to managing stress; tools and tips for success

By the end of this course you will

  • Understand  the nature of pressure and how it manifests itself in reactive behaviour
  • Recognise the symptoms of excessive stress in yourself and others
  • Deal with pressure more effectively and be able to help others when needed
  • Create a five point plan for coping effectively with stress
  • Use the stress wheel to assess your own reactions to stress
