Programme: Personal Effectiveness
Course: Later Life Choices Workshop
Description:
Who is this course for?

This workshop is suitable for all staff who might be considering retirement as a realistic option in the next few years, or who have already decided to retire.  The workshop will help you to make better and more considered choices.

Overview

Since the default retirement age was removed the decision of if and when to retire is now entirely down to individuals.  The concept of retirement has also changed to one of taking advantage of a new active phase of life which in many cases still includes some work, either paid or voluntary.

The purpose of the workshop is to encourage individuals to think seriously about all aspects of retirement, or partial retirement in a structured way.  This will enable delegates to construct a realistic and effective plan for their later life having looked at the nature of retirement today in all its aspects.  The delegates construct their plan after the workshop once they have thought through what they have done and perhaps discussed it with a partner.

By the end of this course you will have considered:-

  • Which elements of your current life are important to you and how this impacts on your choices in retirement
  • The financial aspects of retirement including ‘pension freedom’ options, lump sums, your budget and how you can make the most of living on a fixed income
  • The nature of work in retirement, whether you wish to carry on with work in any form and the options open to you
  • Your preferences and the things you think are important in both work and leisure

Please note:-

A sandwich lunch will be provided and if delegates would like their partner to also attend please inform hr.learning@lse.ac.uk
