Programme: Research Excellence Framework (REF) and Impact
Course: Getting Started with REF Impact Case Studies
Description:

An introductory session for those interested in learning more about the essential requirements for developing an impact case study for submission to the REF. The workshop will outline key criteria applied in REF2014 and consider some best practice examples from that assessment.

Participants will be expected to bring with them a brief bullet-point summary of a current or recent research project and be prepared to talk about its potential impacts. By the end of the session they should:

  1. Understand the key eligibility criteria and submission requirements for impact components of the REF
  2. Be able to explain what constitutes the ‘reach’ and ‘significance’ of impact
  3. Be able to identify the (potential) impacts of their own research and to distinguish between the reach and significance of these
