Programme: Atlas 2018-19
Course: Emotions in the teaching space
Description:

Students can feel distress, anger or alienation related to their studies, particularly when working with challenging or controversial subject matter. This workshop draws on LSE academics’ practice, pedagogic research, and counselling practice to find ways forward when students are experiencing strong emotions.

Who should attend?

All academics are welcome to attend, but the session is of particular use to anyone teaching in disciplines which provoke strong responses from students.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, you should be able to:

  • Compare your own practice to that of other LSE staff, particularly those teaching controversial material
  • Share tools for establishing a productive teaching environment, and evaluate new approaches from peers and literature
  • Strengthen your handling of strong student responses and/or challenging behaviour.
