Course: Engaging students through gamification
Description:

Gamification refers to applying ideas and practices from game design to other activities. While this can include the direct use of games and other forms of playful learning, gamification can also relate to fundamental course and class design. In this workshop we shall consider what insights successful game design and implementation can offer us into teaching and engaging with students, and in particular, with regards to course and curriculum design.

Who should attend?

Lecturers, teachers, course managers and course leaders/convenors who have direct responsibility for teaching and course provision.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Recognise key principles of gamification
  • Examine how gamification can engage students
  • Relate gamification principles to course and curriculum design.
