Are you about to start collecting or working with data as part of PhD research? Or is the data you have already collected a bit of a mess? Does the thought of losing your laptop during your thesis fill you with terror? In this practical workshop the LSE Research Data Librarian will give you essential tips for collecting and organising your PhD data so you can locate what you need with ease.

The session will use practical exercises to cover:

- the different risks of data loss and how you can prevent them

- where you should store PhD Data before, during and after data collection

- how you can back-up your data securely

- effective file-naming and structures

- how you can collect and create contextual information about your data

Those who attend all three session ‘Writing Your Data Management Plan’, ‘Managing Your PhD Data’ and ‘Publishing and Archiving Your Data’ will receive a Certificate of Attendance
